Submissive Does Not Mean Subordinate

Many men, especially those who practice the Christian faith, desire to have a wife who submits to them.

Ephesians 5:22-33New International Version (NIV)

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

While I am all about practicing what the Bible says, I need men to know the difference between a wife being submissive and him treating her as a subordinate.  When a man finds a wife, he finds a good thing and she becomes his helpmate, not his slave.  Being the head of the household means that you are the provider, protector, and the strength that holds your family together.  If your wife cannot depend on you for these things, you have no business wanting anyone to submit to you in the first place.

I saw a talk show and the topic was about men (husbands) who believed so much in their wives being submissive, that they literally treated them like slaves.  This was upsetting to see women being treated this way and I just want women to know the actual meaning of being submissive and to understand the type of treatment that doesn’t have to be tolerated.  If a man is made in the image of God, and if God loves and takes care of his bride (the church), this would mean that a husband should mimic the way God loves and treats his church.  Period.

Subordinate: of lesser order or importance

Submissiveinclined or ready to submit; unresistingly or humbly obedient.

Ladies, which one are you in your relationship/marriage?  Know the difference and make sure you don’t fail to realize that without your presence, your relationship can’t survive, which means you are just as important as your man so make sure you’re being treated accordingly.
