Please allow me a moment to express the importance of being independent by sharing a personal example of how counterproductive it is to be dependent on other people.
When I started my non-profit organization, I thought it might be a good idea to get my peers to assist me by asking for support. By quickly signing up on the website that was assisting me in my sponsorship efforts, a person could add monetary value to my goal at no cost to them! I thought this was great because let’s be honest, hardly anyone, especially close friends and family will give you money. So I knew that if it cost them nothing, I could get the support I was asking for. Needless to say, I was completely wrong. I posted my ad on social media numerous times and I didn’t receive any help except my immediate family. However, there were those who “liked” my post but would not take 2 minutes out of their day to support a great cause.
Luckily, for me, I am still able to reach my goal on my own and that’s because I do not depend on anyone except God to help me with the things I need. Not only did I not receive help from my peers but I also had some people to send me messages asking me to help them with their projects! I felt insulted to say the least and it confirmed the fact that being independent is extremely important!
If there’s a goal you’re trying to reach, create a detailed outline and make sure you know exactly what you need to do in order to reach that goal. Surround yourself with like-minded people because, unfortunately, sometimes those who are the closest to you do not want to see you succeed when they’re still stuck in their current situation. NETWORK until you can’t network anymore because those are the people you will end up having on your winning team. Make sure that you are not counting on anyone else for your personal success except you. If you want something done, do it yourself!
P.S. Thank you to those who did not take the time out to assist me! I have reached my goal, nonetheless, and my non-profit corporation is progressing well. Had it not been for the lack of support, I wouldn’t have pushed so hard on my own so I thank you. You helped out more than you know!
